How to Replace a Swivel Joint Dust Seal

When the time comes to replace a swivel joint dust seal we make the ordering process as easy as 1…2…3 at Swivel Joints. You’ll find the steps to replace a swivel joint dust seal are simple when you follow the directions below.

The directions and illustrations here describe the simple step-by-step method to replace the main seal and the dust seal in an OPW swivel joint.

swivel joint dust seal1. Clean chamber thoroughly, grease new main seal and place seal in chamber of swivel joint body. (For 3200 Series, grease and install back-up ring also.)

swivel joint dust seal2. Thoroughly clean bearing and seal surfaces, then install new felt dust seal (or greased O-ring dust seal) around minor diameter of groove on swivel joint tail.

swivel joint dust seal3. Insert tail into body. Hold dust seal snug in groove of tail so that it will completely enter dust seal chamber. Slight hand pressure is required to force tail into O-ring Seal.

swivel joint dust seal4. Align the ball grooves in tail with ball grooves in body to allow easy entry of balls into the bearing races. Slowly rotate tail back and forth as balls are inserted until both races are filled to capacity with balls.

swivel joint dust seal5. Thread in ball retainers until contact is made with balls, then back off slightly to prevent sticking or binding.

swivel joint dust seal6a. On swivels with dual ball retainers, thread on jam nut. Hold ball retainer in position with a hex wrench while locking jam nut with an open-end wrench. Lubricate.

swivel joint dust seal6b. On swivels with a single ball retaining plug, back off so that the nearest slot is in line with the cotter pin hole. Lock in position with cotter pin and lubricate.

Staying Safe with Drylok Couplers

A business that is handling and transporting chemicals of any type can’t afford to incur spillage. It’s not only costly to your company but it’s hazardous. The quality of couplings you have in use plays an important role in experiencing  successful dry transfers. A business such as yours does not want to discover that the couplings you’re using are inferior, so purchase Drylok products from Swivel Joints from the start and rest assured that your team will stay safe during each and every transfer.

Drylok couplerWhen you require fast, reliable transfers and transport you should only be using the Drylok coupler on all of your lines. Wherever you have applications requiring transferring of product, whether in-house, on railcars, tank cars or trucks and trailers, the Drylok coupler will keep your workers safe by preventing spillage. These couplers guarantee an easy connect and disconnect. There’s a handle action that connects the valve to the coupler and opens and closes the flow. The easy-flow interior optimizes the flow rate in all high-pressure and high-viscosity applications. There’s also super-pak adjustable packing with V-type material that provides a continuous compression, emission-free seal on the handle shaft.

The safety of your employees is guaranteed when you use Drylok because it cannot come uncoupled while the valve is open. In addition, it meets and exceeds all of the stringent emission and worker safety requirements set by EPA, OSHA, and others in industry today.

If you want more information from us about this coupler or want to make a purchase, you can reach us through our websites or by calling 1-866-761-7225. We look forward to hearing from you in the new year.

Kamvalok Couplers are Industry Standard

Kamvalok couplers are considered the standard of the industry for dry disconnect products. Used at liquid transfer points where product loss could occur, these couplings provide a reliable solution to prevent spillage during connection and disconnection.

Kamvalok couplersDry disconnect couplings such as these have been proven as a successful technology to help protect workers and the environment in the transfer of hazardous materials. If your product is toxic, corrosive, caustic or otherwise harmful, these high-performance dry disconnect couplings helps reduce the hazards associated with the transfer of these products.

Kamvalok  couplers are used by manufacturers of inks, paint, lacquers, fatty acids, adhesives, liquid soaps, pharmaceuticals, and many other liquid products. They are especially well suited for handling petroleum products, agriculture-chemicals, vegetable oils, solvents, detergents and many caustics and acids.

Benefits of these couplers include:
•    Ease of Use – The simple connection and disconnection design and lever actuated internal poppet configuration makes this the first choice for liquid transfer operations.Benefits of these couplings include:
•    Spill Protection – Helps to reduce the hazards involved in the connection/disconnection process of transferring hazardous materials.
•    Provides Total Closed-Loop Loading Capabilities by keeping hazardous liquids and vapors in-line and out of the environment.
•    Added protection – Autolok™ locking arms with an automatic locking mechanism signaled by a positive click. Uncoupling requires only an easy tug on the lock release.
•    Dual protection – poppeted seal cylinder with snap-on nose seal provides automatic closure from both directions – the coupler and the adaptor – to prevent accidental spills. Nose seal can be easily replaced without need for new seal cylinder.
•    Lever Actuation – The open/close lever action helps to ensure that liquid flow can only begin once the coupling and adaptor are securely coupled. The lever provides for smooth opening and closing even for high pressure applications.
